For mid-career professionals
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the inaugural World Bronchiectasis Conference, the International Bronchiectasis Community is honoured to establish an award in memory of one of its founding members, Professor Tobias Welte.
This award aims to recognize the exceptional contributions of a mid-career professional dedicated to the field of Bronchiectasis and its related disciplines.
The Tobias Welte Award will be presented annually in conjunction with the World Bronchiectasis Conference.
PURPOSE
Recognize a mid-career healthcare professional and/or scientist who has demonstrated sustained, high-impact contributions to bronchiectasis and its related fields.
Candidate pathways
Nomination by community member(s)
No self-candidacy
Application package
by the community member submitting the candidacy
Impact statement (250–300 words) describing the candidate’s most meaningful contributions.
Attach a CV if possible (not mandatory)
Evaluation Commission
3 members: previous, actual, next WBC Chairs
Evaluation criteria
(scoring 1 to 5)
- Impact on clinical practice (improved outcomes, care pathways, implementation)
- Sustained scientific contribution (quality and continuity of work)
- Leadership & Mentorship (networks, multicentre initiatives, guideline/consensus roles, training, developing programs/people)
The winner will be invited to speak in the “Tobias Welte Lecture” to be included in the next WBC conference.
Timelines for WBC 2026
Launch of the initiative: March 25th, 2026
Candidacies deadline: May 3rd, 2026
Public announcement of the winner: mid-June 2026
Award delivery during the closing remarks of WBC 2026 in Hannover on 27 June 2026
