Burning Cases in Bronchiectasis

Guidelines for Clinical Case Submission

Overview

The Burning Cases Session is an interactive session on the most challenging clinical scenarios in bronchiectasis submitted by the WBC Community.

Format:

  • Burning Cases Session participants can submit Clinical Cases to be protagonists of the Session from May 20 to May 28 through the WBC web-site (www.world-bronchiectasis-conference.org/2026)
  • A moderator presents cases to a panel of experts and the audience

Cases Format:

The Open Case: The panel has some prior context or the case follows a standard (though difficult) path.

Interaction:

  • The panel of discussant will see the cases and discuss each phase in front of the audience
  • After each step the audience participates via real-time Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and open discussion.

  • Present your most difficult cases to World Leading Experts (Key Opinion Leaders).
  • Active contribution to the WBC 2026 scientific program.
  • Get expert feedback on your diagnostic and therapeutic choices.

Submission Categories

We are looking for cases involving:

  • Adult Bronchiectasis (Cystic Fibrosis and Non-CF)
  • Complex Respiratory Infections (NTM, Pseudomonas, etc.)
  • Airway clearance or non-pharmacological complications

Case Structure
(The 4 Pillars)

Submissions must be structured as follows:

  1. Case History: Patient profile, symptoms and initial presentation.
  2. Investigations: Labs, Imaging (CT/X-ray), and Function Tests.
  3. Results & Treatment: What was done and what happened.
  4. Conclusions: The “Lesson Learned” and points for expert debate.

Technical Requirements

  • Language: English only.
  • Format: Use the official WBC PowerPoint Template.
  • Length: Max 8-10 slides (designed for a 15-minute slot).
    • Clinical History (symptoms, family history, comorbidities, co-existing conditions / pathologies, medications) (2 slides)
    • Diagnosis (blood testing, CT scans/radiologic test, lung function) (2 slides)
    • Therapeutic / Management path (2 slides)
    • Conclusion (2 slides)
  • MCQs on hypothetical diagnosis: You must include 1 Multiple Choice Questions after Clinical History and Diagnosis per case (4-5 options each) to engage the audience. Multiple choice questions will be followed by Panel Discussion for each question
  • MCQs on Therapeutic / Management path: You must include 1 Multiple Choice Questions after this chapter per case (4-5 options each) to engage the audience. Multiple choice questions will be followed by Panel Discussion for each question
  • Anonymity: Remove all patient identifiers from text and images (CT scans, etc.).
  • Visuals: High-quality, annotated images or videos are highly encouraged.

Selection & Presentation

  • Review: All cases are peer-reviewed by the Session Chairs Scientific Committee for educational value.
  • Notification: Submitters will be notified by 10 June 2026.
  • On-Stage Presence: If your case is accepted, you (the main author) must be present in person. You will be invited on stage to join the panel of experts while the discussant presents your case.
